Wonderful chocolates and education on them (admittedly the drinking chocolate is just not my thing, my friends loved it). Real passion to bring the best. We enjoyed a chocolate and wine pairing that was delish. Worth a visit.
— Gretchen M, Seattle, via Yelp
Gem of a chocolate shop. Good chocolate bars. Real liquid chocolate, not the chocolate scented milk other places serve. Nice wine, teas, coffee and treats to choose from. We will be back.

Janet, who owns this store is amazing. She was very helpful while I was trying to figure out which chocolate I wanted to buy to make my hot chocolates at home. She offered to make me some hot chocolate to try a particular chocolate. When I told her I don’t drink dairy and only drink unsweetened almond milk, she said, “Oh, I have that.” What? This milk is hard to find in a coffee shop so when a chocolate shop carries this it shows a commitment to the customers. She is extremely customer service oriented and takes a lot of pride in the products she carries. This store is a gem in the Ballard renaissance.

This place has the best espresso, drinking chocolates and sweets! We always stop here when we are in town and we can’t get enough of the great decor, tasty drinks and snacks! They have great furniture and artwork from local artists for sale too. We just went into today and they now have a luncheonette menu. The sandwiches were delicious! Janet, the owner, is fantastic and passionate about everything she has in the shop so you know you are getting only the best!

“Yummy drinkable chocolate and super gifts.”

“Best cold chocolate in Seattle.”
— Beckett M, Seattle
The drinking chocolate is amazing! You can get it as light or dark as you want. Also serve small batch roasted coffee. Excellent customer service. Very friendly and also knowledgeable about the products they sell! They also offer delicious chocolate bars in an affordable price range. I’m officially addicted!

Wonderful coffee, and even better chocolate. They change their coffee grind when the weather changes so that every cup is high quality.

“This is the place to go for a mocha above all others. Made with Italian drinking chocolate, it’s rich and wonderful. My husband had the chocolate raspberry drinking chocolate – super yum! The shop is filled with wonderful chocolate for eating and drinking, cute handmade gifts and an owner who is a genuinely nice and friendly person. And, she knows her chocolate and coffee. Take a break from your busy, crazy day and stop in for a treat. You’ll be happy you did.”

I love this stuff.

Best chocolate selection and a true “feel good” place! Thank you Janet for making a wonderful destination in Ballard.

What an elegant, comfortable little neighborhood spot ! Splendid coffee and extraordinary chocolate. The proprietor is low-key and very welcoming. The space feels nurturing like a great yoga studio, but instead of exercise– chocolate! I’m so glad I happened on this spot.
— Kristen W, via Yelp
BRAVO! Chocolate is the owner’s passion and she is wonderful at sharing it with anyone who walks in the door. What truffles she hand crafts! She wisely controls the quality by making chocolates in small batches. I have never found anything disappointing about the products she makes and all those wonderful items from others that she also provides. She really finds some amazing things. The customer service is only surpassed by the sincerity of the proprietor and the outstanding quality of her product. Chocolat Vitale is a real gem for Ballard and Greenwood and our hands-down preferred source for the finest chocolates in Seattle.

The friendly and knowledgeable staff can discuss the differences in flavor of Venezuelan verses Madagasar chocolate and are happy to let you sample :) I couldn’t be happier with this new shop!”

I am just in this place. The owner is amazing at communicating her passion to her customers. My chocolate drink is amazing too. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone loving chocolate!

I found your company through a friend who introduced me to your delicious chocolate.
— Anna T, Mt Vernon WA
Hands down the best drinking chocolate in town. Drinking chocolate is my vice so I’m very demanding! and I tried dozens of places in Seattle and the Eastside, I’m now a regular at Chocolat Vitale and there isn’t one of my friends who tried it who wasn’t impressed. Janet, the owner, also makes the place very welcoming, she has great creative flair for decorating so there is always something new…this place is a jewel in Seattle…

They make the BEST drinking chocolate (European Classic) I have ever had. Seriously, it will basically ruin all other hot/drinking chocolates for you, which is a grand and marvelous delight. Their Euro Classic is like drinking heavenly rich Chocolate goodness. The staff and owners are super friendly and the entire store has a surprising vibe to it with 1/2 selling chocolate and the other half selling various unique household knickknacks and decor items. Can’t wait to go back for my pantry resupply of Euro Classic.

“The shop owner greeted us at the door, and was so nice and conversational that I wanted to pull a chair up to the retail counter and settle in for a chat. Surrounded by local, regional, and international treats from the finest confectioners, beautiful furniture (tables and counters made by the proprietor’s husband, a couple of cool vintage estate pieces that are also for sale), and with a free sample of her sipping cocoa in hand, I merrily perused the offerings, trying to pick only a few. The hardest part was NOT finding something to buy. It was trying to decide what I had to leave behind. Not only did I find some gorgeous labels and wonderful chocolates for me, but I also bought a few as gifts. Now, if only I had room for that chair in my place…I’m looking forward to coming back for another chat and some more delectables.”
— Vanessa J, Seattle (via Yelp)
This is a lovely place. They sell their own gourmet drinking chocolate and have specialty and small-batch chocolate from all kinds of interesting places. The owner was friendly and invited me to sample a no-sugar chocolate drink that we brainstormed together while I was looking around the shop. It’s really nice to have this shop in the neighborhood. If you are a chocolate enthusiast you are in for a treat and will definitely learn something while you’re there.

“We ordered sipping chocolate from here for our wedding as wedding favors. The owners are very communicative throughout the ordering manufacturing process. When we picked up the order we were able to sample some sipping chocolate in the shop.
We also bought some tea in the shop as well as soap they sell. It’s a very awesome, local store.”
— Rose B, Seattle (via Yelp)
We live just up the street, and have passed this place many times. We finally decided to walk down and check it out. Janet, the owner, is quite knowledgable about everything chocolate, and has some wonderful ideas if you are at all wavering on a decision. My husband and I hung around for a while, sipping delicious chocolate in this amazing little shop. DEFINITELY worth the stop. Oh! And they play movies there in the evening!!
Gabrielle R, Seattle (via Yelp)
I stumbled upon this place one day, and boy am I glad I did. I was hankering for a mocha, and the shop owner(?) asked me what kind of chocolate I like to eat to get an idea of which one of the mochas I would like the best–yes, there are several kinds! She nailed it. It was seriously the most delicious mocha I have ever had. It makes mochas at your standard chain coffee shops taste like absolute crap. These mochas are truly chocolate drinks with coffee. Not coffee with a bit of cocoa powder. If I could walk to this place I would be here every week. Try it!
— Nathalie T, via Yelp
“Perhaps the tastiest cup of hot chocolate I’ve ever had.”
— Jessi M, Seattle WA
“Thanks for making such GREAT drinking chocolate! I have a cup every morning.”
–Peggy F, Tequesta FL
Hands down – best hot chocolate I’ve ever had!! And what a fantastic little shop, very eclectic, with a little bit of everything from tea cups to gummy candies. There is an old brass cash register as well as other old art work that adds lush character to the shore. Along with the sweet smell of the brewing chocolate, you can’t help but feel as though you’re being whisked away to another time. A sweeter time…
And what an enjoyable time it is!!
— Angella H, via Yelp
Love this place! From a casual stop by to get a yummy chocolate drink fix, or some scrumptious gifts, it always impresses. The owner is truly lovely and always makes the visit fun. I really enjoy the free samples and knowledge of local chocolatiers too.

Thanks for making my holidays special with yummy chocolate! Have a very Happy Thanksgiving and a very merry Christmas!

“This isn’t your usual Chocolate Shop. I loved it the moment I walked through the door. Janet, the owner, is a savvy chocolatier, an artist, and has created (along with her husband) a very charming place.
“While we chatted I had a wonderful cup of Venezuelan Dark sipping chocolate and we shared a great conversation and passion for re-purposing. Not only is there great European chocolate drinks they have a nice assortment of chocolates by Theo, Dick Taylor, and Dolceria Bonajuto, Sicily, and coffee by Velton’s.”
–Rene F, Seattle WA (from Yelp)
“Great Place! Enjoyed stopping by and checking it out, lots of great stuff.”
— Zack R, Seattle
The coffee there is really good. I like the Americano the best. The also have re-purposed furniture that is eclectic and retro looking decor. The person who runs the place seems to know a lot about chocolate and coffee. I will be back for sure.
